From 5-7 August a group of over 30 Brunel Alumni returned to campus to learn the fundamentals of starting a business by taking part in a three-day residential workshop organised by the Brunel Innovation Hub team.
For aspiring entrepreneur Ina, the range of topics and the diversity of attendees made for a fantastic and stimulating three days.
“Every section was special and educational in its nature,” he said. “The workshops informed me of what I need to achieve for an effective business take-off and continuous improvement and served as a reminder of what I already know.
“The delegates were brilliant and cut across different backgrounds, ages, sexes and careers. Some were already running their own company and looking forward to opening more.”
“The atmosphere was charged with sound reasoning, flavour and excitement throughout the three days. I benefited hugely from networking both from alumni who have succeeded, the delegates and the special speakers.”
The conference kicked off with a session on Business Planning, followed by Regulations and a talk from Jordan Chitty, the founder of Naked Creativity and former Brunel Alumnus of the Year, who discussed his personal business journey. Rupert Knights from Saunders and Dolleymore finished the day off by covering Risk Management.
The delegates then had the opportunity to focus on team building and networking skills with Team Dynamics Trainer Sylvia Baldock and take part in an interactive session on ‘Visualising the Future’ with business consultant Joolz Lewis. The week rounded off with a dynamic talk on customer relations by Geoff Langston, Managing Director at Arizion, and a look at using social media in business with Brunel’s Communications Manager Alex Buchanan.
Fellow delegate Jawad Syed was impressed with the quality of information on offer: “All the business workshops speakers were very professional and experts in their own business area and the session also provided me with the excellent opportunity to meet with other like-minded people with the similar business goals and objectives.”
